The goal was to create a ‘skyline’ out of a collection of landmarks, rather than with any high rise buildings. This was primarily for the celebration around the 60th Anniversary for the City of Overland Park. They needed a fun aesthetic that also enveloped a classic and even slightly retro feel.
A primary design was needed for all collateral surrounding the promotion of the anniversary’s celebratory events. This would include the full ‘skyline,’ which ultimately featured 6 landmarks in one design, without feeling congested. There was also the added challenge of keeping color hues to a minimum for merchandise printing expenses, but retaining contrast so that no elements were lost.
Secondary logo marks were needed for variety within wayfinding, apparel, and merchandise. The tower, the city’s most iconic landmark, was kept as the singular icon in these two designs as a staple. The monochromatic OP60 ‘stack’ provides a square-shaped option to fit well in smaller spaces, and the golden-yellow icon is best for apparel, merchandise, and letterhead collateral where needed.
The final color palette can be used well together as a whole as featured in the primary design, or separately as shown in the secondary marks. The typography combines one serif, one san-serif, and a third classic script for the retro aesthetic.
