I love dogs, and cats are pretty awesome, too. On August 23rd I had the pleasure of photographing an event for the non-profit organization The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City in downtown Kansas City at Hale Arena. The event was called ‘Art Unleashed‘ and asked artists from the surrounding area
to donate any and all kinds of art from drawings to sculptures to paintings and jewelry. Every piece related to cats and dogs in some way to appeal to attendees made up of animal-loving donors and sponsors.
Loren Halifax from Fox 4 News was there to present the various events throughout the evening as there was both a silent and live auction for bidders to participate in. during the event for which they introduced something new as well as stuck to tradition from the events in the past. Qtego, a mobile technology company who offers a seamless and fast-paced way to participate in silent auctions helped Art Unleashed successfully raise over $20,000. Qtego was a new addition to the annual event and they were a huge help to every participant with a cell phone. Sticking to tradition, the Nigro Brothers donated their time to boost the energy in the crowd while talking one hundred miles a minute during the old fashioned live auction. Food was catered in from various restaurants including Cinzettis, Noodles and Company, Cakeology and others.
Everyone I spoke to had such a generous, caring attitude towards the cause and were especially excited about the furry friends who were also in attendance. The event was a huge success with hundreds of participants and thousands of dollars raised. One popular piece in particular, a London-inspired telephone booth sized for the kitty in the family, sold for $2,000.
Thanks to Photographers for Non-Profit, I was able to connect with the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City to photograph this event, and it’s an awesome feeling to donate my time to such an amazing organization!
