Lauren and I were both band nerds in college (no shame) and her dad was probably our biggest (or loudest) cheerleader. Lauren is such a joy to be around and I remember she was like the ‘band mom,’ always volunteering to help and always taking care
of everyone else. I actually didn’t get a chance to meet her fiance, Mike, before the big day, but he was such a gentleman and gave my assistant and I an amazing first impression. There was so much love on their big day, from inside jokes to tears to (all in good fun) KU/KState rivalry, and we had a blast being a part of it.
1. How did you first meet? What’s the ‘story’ that by now you’ve probably told at least 32 times?
Mike I met on a blind date. I was living in Kansas City and one of my coworkers had lived in Wichita, where Mike resides, and had been friends with him for many years. She set us up, and we met for lunch one day. Lunch went well, but not spectacular. Mike thought that would be the first and last date, but I had other plans. We continued to talk occasionally, and eventually Mike asked me if I wanted to go with him to a Royals game. We had a great time, and I apparently won over his heart because I bought him a beer!
2. What really describes you as a couple since you’ve been dating? What brings and keeps you together?
Adventurous. We both are always on the go. We travel to sporting events constantly and enjoy our time together on our “car dates” to and from other cities. Traveling is one of our favorite things to do, even if it is not to a game. We have lots of dreams to go to different countries.
3. What was both of your favorite parts of your wedding day?
How do you pick? We enjoyed the reveal and having that moment together. Listening to our fathers speeches at the reception, the dollar dance, and of course the cake! We loved having all our friends and family with us on our special day.
4. What is the best marriage advice you’ve received so far, or is there a quote or verse that you love?
My grandma told us to write in a little diary together as often as we can so that when we are older we can look back and read about all the things we did and learned together.
Congratulations to Lauren and Mike!
